India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq. km. It became part of India in 1956. Total population of Lakshadweep as per 2011 census is 64,473 of which male and female are 33,123 and 31,350 respectively. Recently, certain changes have been made in the way it should be governed, which has been in controversy since.
